Ann Nolan Design produces
luxurious scarves and wraps based on a technique Ann developed as a student at
Rhode Island School of Design.They are
based on the tradition of lacemaking and Ann’s mission was to bring lace into
the 21st century i.e. contemporise lace.The scarves and wraps are handmade using 100%
wool and unlike mass produced textiles, these hand crafted scarves show the
hand of the maker.Each scarf stands
apart from any other.They are wearable
luxury with an heirloom quality.Using the lace motif Ann intends to diversify into other areas, e.g. interior
products
About The Promoter
Ann Nolan is a textile
designer who completed a BA in Art and Design at the West Wales School of the
Arts in 2001. She then lived in London
and worked in the industry for 18 months. She went on to study for a two year Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree at
Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Providence, Rhode Island, USA graduating
in 2005. After graduating she worked at
GAP Clothing in their research and development department and then worked as a
design assistant at a Brooklyn based textile design studio. In 2007 RISD invited her back to teach
weaving to sophomores. She returned to
Ireland and in 2008 set up her own design studio in a former Workhouse in
Kilmacthomas, Co Waterford.
